a106A 106: A very early maturing variety. The thornless/spineless heads are glossy green in colour and alliptic in shape achieving medium to large sizes, with hearts that are tender and sweet. It´s very productive with execellent uniformity and very adaptable, more tolerant to frost and heat confditions than other varieties. The early autum production can be achieved by using plant growth regulators, e.g. GA3.

a109A 109: It´s an early maturing variety with simmilar appearance to that of A-106. The attractive deep purple heads are elliptic in shape achieving medium to large pieces and they have thorns but hardly prominent. It´s a very productive variety with excellent taste and texture, ideal for export fresh markets

AGRIFEM Ltd offers Greek farmers the possibility to produce artichoke offseason annually or biennially, already cultivated successfully in the Mediterranean regions of Spain and in recent years in Greece. Its high yielding varieties can give two productions a year.


Α. Seeding

It is done in small seedbeds – seed trays.

Temperature: must be maintened in around 20-25ο C for 7 days.

Relative moisture: 80 – 90%

Lighting: no light. The trays are covered until the seeds start to grow.

After 1 week, the seedlings are transplanted to larger cells or 6×6 7×7 and kept in the greenhouse at temperatures of 20-25o C until growth – for 6-8 weeks. Seeding can be done directly in the large cells to avoid transplantation.

Β. Transplantation to the field – planting distance

When seedlings gain 4-6 leaves, they are transplanted to their final positions on the field at distances of 0,8 – 1 m on the track and 1,3-1,5 m between lines ie 700-900 plants / acre approx.

C. Seeding times

The initiation of the cultivation can be performed in three different time periods:

Harvest: May – June – July

Transplantation in the field: June

Harvest: September – October – November

D. Hormones

To increase the production

We use GA3. Apply 3 times:

a. 40 days after transplantation at a dosage of 30cc/100kgr water

b. 20 days after (a) at a dosage of 20 cc/100kgr water

c. 20 days after (b) at a dosage of 20 cc/100kgr water

The proper functioning of the hormones is achieved at pH :4-4,5 that is why we regulate the pH with the use of ΒΒ5.

Ε. Lubrication

Basic: 6 units of Nitrogen per acre

10 – 15 units of phosphorus per acre

30 units of potassium per acre

Foliar: after transplantation 2–4 applications of Green-feed 19-19-19+TE at a ratio of 0,5 – 0,6

After the fruit set and later apply Green-feed 12-7-36 +2 in the same proportion.

Fertigation: after transplantation apply Green-feed drip 20-20-20+TE at a dosage of 30-35 Κgr/acre, in total.

After the fruit set apply Green-feed drip 14-7-21+ΤΕ at a dosage of 50 Κgr/acre, in total.

Additionally, we apply 1,5 – 2 Κgr/acre every 10 days Magnisal

The increased demands of artichoke in organic matter during the period of dormancy, after the first production, should be noted. So apply with each watering LABIN MATERIA ORGANICA 84% to the total dose of 10 – 20 lt / acre.

F. Crop yield

We remind you the possibility of a second harvest, after the heads and strains of the first harvest in height 1 – 1,2 m are removed from the ground. The yield at the first harvest is 15 marketable heads, while the second 10 is heads.
